III . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND:
Delays in the full implementation of the intensive day treat-
ment Medi-Cal program operated by La Cheim Schools , Inc. for
severely mentally disturbed children caused a short-fall in the
projected number of children to be served in this program in
FY 1988-89 . At the same time , the two group homes operated by
La Cheim Residential Treatment Centers, Inc. , for severely men-
tally disturbed adolescents and latency-age children required
the provision of additional services to maintain adequate staff
coverage during weekends due to an unexpected increase in the
number of children who could not spend weekends away with their
families . This shift of funds between these two contracts
makes it possible to finance the additional services needed in
the residential group home treatment program.
