SUBJECT: RELIEF OF CASH SHORTAGES IN THE BAY MUNICIPAL COURT
Specific Request(s) or Recommendations(s) & Background & Justification
RECOMMENDATION:
Authorize relief of cash shortage in the Bay Municipal Court as recommended by the
County Auditor-Controller and District Attorney.
REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
A cash shortage occurred in the Bay Municipal Court on May 19, 1989, in
the amount of $100.00. Efforts to identify the reason for the shortage
were unsuccessful.
The shortage and subsequent investigation by the department were reviewed
and found adequate by both the District Attorney and Auditor-Controller.
The Auditor-Controller recommends that internal controls, specifically
cash accountability procedures, be strengthened as a deterrent to future
shortages. This includes balancing receipts at the end of each day and
maintaining separate accountability for each cashier.
