SUBJECT: Authorization for Use of Ann Adler Trust Fund Monies
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
Accept recommendation from Family and Children's Trust Committee (FACT) to pay $1,740.00,
from the Ann Adler Trust Fund, to the Family Stress Center for specialized training in "Working
with Substance-Exposed Infants and Preschoolers;"
Authorize payment using a County Demand - Form #D15.
FINANCIAL IMPACTS:
None on County budget. The Ann Adler Trust Fund has a little over $110,000 available and
unencumbered.
BACKGROUNq:
On June 5, 1989, the Family and Children's Trust Committee (FACT) unanimously voted to
recommend $1,740.00 be paid to the Family Stress Center to send six (6) member of the Contra
Costa Interagency Council on Infant Services to specialized training in "Working with Substance -
Exposed Infants and Preschoolers and their Families." This $1,740.00 will match other funds
available to the Interagency Council.
The training program will be given from August 7-11, 1989 at the University of California - San
Diego. The Family Stress Center, fiscal and administrative agent for the Interagency Council, will
send an interagency team to the training.

This team will then be able to both apply the skills directly and serve as local trainers for other
Contra Costa County community organization staff.
Substance exposed infants comprise the largest and fastest growing group, referred for services.
The challenges in meeting the needs of these infants require interdisciplinary collaboration.
