HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05091989 - T.5 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA T. 5 Adopted this Order on May 9, 1989 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers, Fanden, Schroder, McPeak and Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None --------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- SUBJECT: Working Women' s Awareness Program The Board of Supervisors on this date heard a presentation on the Working Women Awareness Week Program in Contra Costa County. Phil Batchelor, County Administrator, introduced the program. The following people appeared to speak: Eileen K. Bitten, Manager, Employment Programs, welcomed everyone to today' s program. Irene Vasquez-Escobar, Moderator, commented on the impact of women on daily lives, and on the various roles of women in the work place. Margaret Butz, President, Central Labor Council. Honorable Irene Takahashi, Bay Municipal Court Judge. A video entitled "Profiles of Working Women" was presented by Harry D. Cisterman, Director of Personnel. Walt Treanor, Chair, Contra Costa County Merit Board. Lee Finney, Chair, Advisory Committee on the Employment and Economic Status of Women, spoke on the Contra Costa County Women' s Agenda. Supervisor McPeak commented on the Contra Costa Women' s Agenda (Exhbit A Attached) and suggested adoption of the agenda by the Board. Supervisor Fanden moved to adopt the Contra Costa Women' s agenda. Supervisor McPeak requested that the issue of video display terminals be addressed by referring it to the Internal Operations Committee to develop an appropriate response including policies and any model actions that the County as an employer or other employers might consider. Therefore, IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the goals listed on Contra Costa Women' s Agenda, including Economic Justice Goals, Women' s Physical and Mental Health Goals and Individual and Legal Rights Goals are ADOPTED; and the issues relating to video display terminals are REFERRED to the Internal Operations Committee to develop appropriate response, including policies and model actions.
