HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05231989 - 1.52 �- TO: Board of Supervisors FROM: Phil Batchelor, County Administrator DATE: May 16, 1989 sr9 COLIK SUBJECT: CONTRACT FOR DEVELOPMENT OF HATE/VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM Specific Request(s) or Recommendations(s) & Background & Justification RECOMMENDATION: Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute on behalf of the County a contract with Fred Persily and Associates in the amount of$18,750 for the period May 1, 1989 -December 31, 1989 for the purpose of developing a model hate/violence prevention program in Contra Costa County as is more particularly set forth in the service plan which is attached to the contract. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: On May 9, 1989 the Board of Supervisors approved a grant from the San Francisco Foundation in the amount of $35,000 and committed to making matching funds of$27,500 available in the budget for 1989-90. A portion of these funds will be used to fund this contract. BACKGROUND: The development of a systematic method of reporting incidents of hate/violence and responding to such incidents is needed in this County. This contract will provide technical assistance and consultation to criminal justice agencies, schools and appropriate public and private organizations to develop such a system and provide training for teachers, school administrators, criminal justice personnel and public and private organizations within the County.
