SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I . RECOMMENDED ACTION :
Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute on behalf of the
County , Standard Contract 426-183 with Patricia A. Carini , R.N. ,
M. P.A. , for the period April 1 , 1989 through May 31 , 1990 , for
provision of consultation and technical assistance with regard to
a Patient Classification System, with a Contract Payment Limit
of $55 , 000 .
II . FINANCIAL IMPACT :
Source of funds for this contract is 100% County, and funding
for this Contract has been included in the Department ' s 1988-89
fiscal year budget and will be included in the 1989-90 fiscal
year expenditure projection .
III . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND :
Patient Classification Systems are mandated by JCAHO and Title
XXII , and an updated system for Merrithew Memorial Hospital is
essential because of the heavy workload for nurses and the
increased acuity of the patients .
At the conclusion of the 1988 contract negotiations between the
County and California Nurses Association (CNA) , agreement was
reached with regard to development of a new Patient
Classification System for the Hospital . Pursuant to the
agreement , a representative committee was convened, and the com-
mittee subsequently selected Ms . Carini as the consultant to
assist the Hospital with selection and implementation of a new
system.
