HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04181989 - T.4 T. 4 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on _April 1:8, 1989 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers, Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------ SUBJECT: Interview of Candidates for the County Clerk-Recorder Position In accordance with the procedure established by the Board of Supervisors on February 28, 1989, the Board received a report dated April 11, 1989 from Phil Batchelor, County Administrator advising that 21 applications were received for consideration for appoint- ment to the position of County Clerk-Recorder. He reported that a screening panel (composed of representatives of the private bar, a former county,, counsel, a former county administrator, a retired judge, an individual who has served as a Clerk-Recorder in a position similar` to the Clerk-Recorder position in Contra Costa County, and minority and female representatives) reviewed all the applications submitted. The County Administrator presented a list of the eight candidates who were ranked highest and who are listed below in the ranked order: 1. Charles W. Bock 5. Jonathan J. Marks 2. Robert J. Delevati 6. Charlotte Maggard 3 . Stephen L. Weir 7 . Alberto R. Galvan 4. Oliver G. Everette 8. Donna Dell Mr. Batchelor stated that the applications of all candidates were provided prior to this date to all Board members for review. It was noted that in response to a request of a .Board member, Gus Kramer was also added to the ranked list. Mr. Batchelor advised that Charlotte Maggard had withdrawn her name from consid- eration and that her interview time had been assigned to Mr. Kramer. j The Chairman then announced that the Board would begin inter- viewing the candidates and that each candidate would be summoned to the Board Chambers in the order set forth above for public inter- view. (Candidates were sequestered in the J. P. Kenny Conference Room prior to their assigned interview time. ) At the conclusion of the interviews of the eight candidates, Board members commented on the selection process and agreed that the four candidates judged to be the most qualified be considered further. It was noted for the record that the four finalists are Charles W. Bock, Robert J. Delevati, Stephen L. Weir, and Gus S. Kramer. Therefore, IT IS ORDERED BY THE BOARD that the County Admin- istrator is REQUESTED to conduct a background investigation ( in- cluding reviewing criminal history information) of the four final- ists with each candidate being required to furnish a copy of his Financial Disclosure Form (Form 730 or 721) as well as a written response to the question relative to his interest in running for the Office of Clerk-Recorder in the June 1990 Primary Election if he is not selected for the position.
