MICHAEL WALFORD, CHIEF ENGINEER DATE: April 18, 1989 SUBJECT: Increase of Project Contingency Funds and APPROVAL of Contract Change Order No. 2 for the Lane Drive Paving project, Project No. 7520-6B8690-88, in Concord. Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background & Justification RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE Project Contingency Fund increase of $12 , 000. 00, and AUTHORIZE the Chief Engineer to execute Contract Change Order No. 2 in the approximate amount of $7 , 000. 00, to compensate the contractor, Carone Brothers, Inc. , for changes. in plans and increase in contract quantities. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The increase in the Contingency Fund will be funded by Flood Control Zone 3B (25%) and the State Department of Water Resources (75%) . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: Additional work was required to improve safety and drainage along the roadway. Because this change order and previously approved contract change orders collectively exceed $25, 000 . 00, Board approval is required. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Lack of approval would preclude payment of work required for the successful completion of the contract.
