HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04111989 - S.1 S. f IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In .the Matter of Supporting the ) Social and Health Agency Resource ) RESOLUTION NO. 89/232 Exchange Development of a West ) County Senior Services Network ) WHEREAS West Contra Costa County has a larger than average senior population; and WHEREAS twice as many of these older adults live in poverty in West Contra Costa County than in the remainder of the County; and WHEREAS West County has high rates of crime, domestic violence and substance abuse, all of which serve to isolate frail elders and prevent access to needed services; and WHEREAS most community based senior services are located in Central County and serve primarily Central County residents; and WHEREAS the majority of services to West County elders are provided through public agencies and these services are divided along city lines; and WHEREAS improved coordination of services, including elimination of service gaps and duplication, is necessary to better serve West County seniors in this period of serious fiscal constraints faced by the County; and WHEREAS S.H.A.R.E. has provided an informal forum for improving resource sharing, program planning, case consultation and education among elder service providers; and WHEREAS the addition of staff and funding can help to maximize existing resources for frail elders, and current fiscal constraints do not allow for County funding of such an expansion; NOW THEREFORE IT IS RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisor of Contra Costa County HEREBY: 1 . Supports the efforts of the S.H.A.R.E coalition to provide a coordinated service network to the seniors of West Contra Costa County; 2 . Respectfully requests that the Bay Area Independent Elders Program provide financial support for S.H.A.R.E. ' s development of. such a network through their grant program; and 3 . Requests all County Departments to support S.H.A.R.E. in their application for funding. PASSED on April 11, 1989 by unanimous vote of the Board members present.
