MICHAEL WALFORD, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DATE: March 7 , 1989 SUBJECT: INCREASE of Project Contingency Funds and APPROVAL of Contract Change order No. 3 for the Pleasant Hill Road Slide Repair, Project No. 0671-6R6775-86, in the Walnut Creek area. Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background & Justification RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE Project Contingency Fund increase of $5, 000. 00, and AUTHORIZE thb ,! ,public Works Director to execute Contract Change Order No. 3 in the approximate amount of $5, 500. 00 to compensate the Contractor, L & S General Contractors, for changes in plans and increases in contract quantities. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The increase in the Contingency Fund will be funded by the Federal Highway Administration. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONZBACKGROUND: Additional work was required for improved safety during the project and for the finished structure. Modifications were required on the existing drainage system. This Contract Change Order provides for those changes. Because this change order and previously approved contract change orders collectively exceed $25,000- 00, Board approval is required. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The lack of approval would preclude payment for work required to complete the repair of the slide.
