K-9 Rommel ) RESOLUTION NO. 89/173
WHEREAS, Officer James R. Lambert, is a Contra Costa County Deputy
Sheriff serving as a Police K-9 Officer with the Danville Police Depart-
ment; and
WHEREAS, on Thursday, March 16, 1989, Officer Lambert, who was off
duty, responded with his K-9, Rommel, to a call from his Department to
search for a criminal suspect who had fled into thick shrubbery; and
WHEREAS, Officer Lambert gave his dog the suspect' s scent from
articles found in the suspect' s car and tracked him through muddy fields
and thick- shrubbery for approximately one hour and a distance of some
three miles before capturing the suspect, who was wanted in two other
jurisdictions, and recovered some $3 ,500 in stolen jewelry, allowing it
to be returned to the rightful owner; and
WHEREAS, Rommel' s successful search over time and distance far
exceeding requirements for police K-9 certification, demonstrates Officer
Lambert' s skill as a handler and his dedication to the high standards of
the Police K-9 Officer,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Officer James R. Lambert, and
his Police K-9 , Rommel, are to be commended for exceptional work which
exemplifies the police motto "To Serve and Protect" .
PASSED AND ADOPTED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on
this 21st day of March, 1989.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a

date aforesaid.
