In the Matter of Commending
Maxine Maas Resolution No. : 89/172
On the Occasion of Her Retirement
From Thirty-Nine Years of Service
To Contra Costa County
WHEREAS 'Maxine Maas is retiring from her position as
SuperintETndent of Juvenile Hall on March 31 , 1989 , a post she
has held for the last eight years; and
WHEREAS Maxine Maas began her thirty-nine years of County
service as a Counselor in the Edgar Children' s Shelter in 1951 ,
working with the babies in the Edgar Cottage; and
WHEREAS Maxine Maas developed, designed and started
California' s first Girls ' Residential Treatment Center in 1969 ,
and served as its first Superintendent until 1980; and
WHEREAS Maxine Maas accepted promotion to Superintendent
of Juvenile Hall in 1981 , a position she held with unfailing
grace, humor, understanding and professionalism.
WHEREAS Maxine Maas involved the community effectively
and convinced many to become benefactors of and volunteers for
Juvenile Hall.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
of the County of Contra Costal California, hereby CONGRATULATES
Maxine Maas on the occasion of her retirement , COMMENDS her
exceptional dedication to the troubled youth of Contra Costa
County, NOTES her remarkable. managerial and professional
development qualities , EXTENDS to Maxine Maas its best wishes
for a very pleasant retirement and TRULY REGRETS that such a
talented and dedicated employee is leaving Contra Costa County.
Passed and adopted on March 21 , 1989 , by unanimous vote
of the Board members present.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct
copy of a resolution entered in the minutes of the Board of
Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
