In the matter of proclaiming )
April 1989, as > RESOLUTION NO. 89/ 147
Earthquake Preparedness Month )
WHEREAS, California has experienced significant losses of life
and property as the result of earthquakes and continues to face
the threat of earthquakes with damaging intensities; and
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County, situated on five known earthquake
faults, could experience a very damaging earthquake; and
WHEREAS, the loss of life and property can be minimized if
emergency preparedness measures are taken by the residents of
Contra CostaCounty before an earthquake occurs; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Office of Emergency Services
works with the Governor' s Office of Emergency Services, cities,
other governmental agencies, service organizations, educational
institutes, and businesses to provide earthquake safety
information and training to residents throughout the county:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THIS BOARD RESOLVED, that the month of
April 1989, is hereby proclaimed ' as Earthquake Preparedness
Month, and all residents are urged to learn what to do before,
during , and after an earthquake to prevent injury, loss of
life, and property damage, and
BE IT •FURTHER RESOLVED that Contra Costa County will continue
its earthquake awarenessand emergency preparedness training
programs and will cooperate with public and private agencies in
an effort to urge all citizens to take appropriate steps to
prepare themselves and their families to cope with a damaging
earthquake.
PASSED and ADOPTED by the unanimous vote of the Board on the
14th day of March, 1989 .
