MICHAEL WALFORD, CHIEF ENGINEER -DATE: July 121 1988 SUBJECT: Joint Funding Agreement with the U.S. Geological Survey Project No. 7505-6F8161. Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background & Justification I. RECOMMENDATION APPROVE the continuation of the Joint Funding Agreement, dated October 1, 1986 with the U.S. Geological Survey for stream gaging for the period October 1, 1987 to September 30, 1988 and AUTHORIZE Chief Engineer to execute agreement. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT The total cost of the stream gaging program for the period of October 1, 1987 to September 30, 1988 is $11,750. The Flood Control District's costs are $5,875; U.S.G.S. costs are $5,875. XII. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONZBACKGROUND Since 1962 , the U.S. Geological Survey and the Contra Costa County Flood Control District have been sharing the operation and maintenance costs of the stream gages on San Ramon Creek at Sam Ramon and Little Pine Creek near Alamo under the U.S.G.S. Cooperative water Resources Investigation Program. Long-term, continuous records of stream flow are essential to the calibration and verification of watershed runoff data used by the District's Engineering Division for the design of all drainage improvements in the County.. IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION Loss of opportunity to share cost which would cause loss of longterm data base required to predict storm runoff for project design.
