THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Adopted this Order on June 7, 1988 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Powers , Fanden, McPeak, Torlakson & Schroder
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None RESOLUTION NO. 88/330
SUBJECT: RESTRICTING TRUCK WEIGHT ON CROW CANYON ROAD WESTERLY
OF THE INTERSTATE 680 FREEWAY, SAN RAMON
WHEREAS, over the past several years the western portion of Crow
Canyon Road has become a major commute route between southern
Contra Costa County and central Alameda County and;
WHEREAS, an increasing number of loaded tractor-trailer trucks
have been observed using this route as a shortcut between I-580
and I-680 freeways and the larger trucks have been observed with
heavy loads of lumber, steel, concrete pilings, etc. , which may
weigh up to 80, 000 pounds and;
WHEREAS, during this same time period, deterioration of the
pavement has been observed, particularly in Alameda County and
it is likely that the pavement condition is a direct result of
the increased use of the road by heavy trucks and in addition the
larger trucks cannot maintain normal speed over the steep grade
near the County line and this can cause significant safety and
congestion problems during normal commute hours and;
WHEREAS, the City Council of San Ramon has adopted a 30, 000 lb
(15 TON) weight limit on their portion of this road and Alameda
County has indicated their intent to adopt a similar weight
restriction on their portion of this road and;
WHEREAS, this weight limit would permit fully loaded 2-axle local
delivery trucks to use this road but it would prevent its use by
heavy loaded 18-wheel tractor-trailer rigs, thus preventing
further damage to the road subgrade and increase traffic safety
and reduce congestion and;
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors finds that
it would be in the best interests of the residents of Contra
Costa County to prohibit the use of this portion of Crow Canyon
Road by trucks exceeding the gross weight of 30, 000 lbs. (15 TON)
and;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Board of Supervisors
supports and concurs with the action taken by the City of San
Ramon and Alameda County to restrict truck weights to a maximum
of 30, 000 lbs. on Crow Canyon Road westerly of Interstate 680
and;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be sent to
the City of San Ramon and Alameda County Board of Supervisors.
