Director-Public Health POSITION REQUEST
I am hereby requesting the creation of an additional Therapist
Aide position in CCS Cost Center #5891 . At present, the number
of Therapist Aide positions (5) in CCS is disproportionate to the
number and caseloads of our Medical Therapy Units (MTU ' s) . One
MTU must function with only one Therapist Aide, which results in
the higher paid staff time of Physical Therapists (PT' s) and
Occupational Therapists (OT ' s) being used inefficiently when they
must perform tasks more appropriately assigned to a Therapist Aide.
The ripple effect of this situation is a reduction in the caseload-
capabilities of PT' s and OT' s at the effected MTU. The distance
between the four MTU ' s County-wide prohibits the effectiveness of
sharing Therapist Aides between the units.
The most cost effective approach to relieving this situation
in light of the ever increasing caseloads of our MTU ' s, is the
addition of a new Therapist Aide position, as opposed to hiring
additional contract PT ' s or OT' s, or vendorizing services to local
hospitals. The new Therapist Aide position being requested is included
in the most recent State staffing pattern for the program, and
will be 80% State funded. The 20% County portion of funding for
this position, approximately $4,053 . 00 annually, is currently within
5P the FY 1987-88 CCS Budget.

Web Beadle Therapist Aide position
From: Departmental Personnel Officer Subject: for CCS Program
This is a request to add one full time Therapist Aide position in the California
Children Services Program, without offset.
The attached memo dated 1/22/88 speaks to the programmatic need for this posi-
tion. In summary, addition of this position will assist us in providing more
cost effective services by relieving Physical and Occupational Therapists to do
more professional level activities. The position will be assigned to work
Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm at our Mauzy Medical Therapy Unit in Alamo and will per-
form the following duties:
Under the work direction of a PT or OT,
-assists in setting up the patient treatment area
-fabricates therapy equipment for use in treatments
-carries out assigned treatment program activities and
reports progress of these- to professional staff
-does related support work as required
The cost of this position is paid 80% from State funds and includes a 20% County
match. The County portion of the cost can be more than offset by the savings
realized from P-300 814496 approved effective 12/2/87. No additional costs for
space or equipment are anticipated. We believe classified status is appropriate
in that the services involved are part of ongoing activities.
Please shoot for placement of the attached P-300 on the Board's 6/7/88 agenda.
