SUBJECT: SUPPORT FOR AB 3273 - FILANTE, "AGING" ``71
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION`
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Board of Supervisors support AB 3273 - Filante, which
appropriates $80, 000 to the State Department on Aging to
reimburse representatives of local Agency on Aging Advisory
Councils for participation in senior advocacy and related
travel; and,
That if such funding is infeasible due to the current State
budget deficit, the Board support having the State Department
of Aging consider how this function can be carried out through
the Commission on Aging's activities; and,
Further, that the Board authorize the Welfare Director to
write the County's Legislative delegation and the Director of
the Department on Aging outlining its position.
BACKGROUND:
The Triple A Council of California (TACO) was organized in
1977 to link representatives from the Agency on Aging Advisory
Councils throughout California. TACC's purposes include:
♦ advising Area Agencies in planning, and coordinating
services to the aging;
+ coordinating and providing Advisory Council Training;
♦ exchanging information and programs between Advisory
Councils; and,
♦ involving the elderly, to the maximum extent possible,
on programs, services, and issues affecting them.
TACC meetings among the 33 Area Advisory Councils are held six
times each year in Sacramento. Participation and travel
costs are prohibiting the Council representatives from
attending.

AB 3273 2 June 3, 1988
The AB 3273 would provide reimbursement to these
representatives and enable their regular participation.
However, if the current State Budget deficit makes such
funding infeasible, providing for this participation within
the activities of the Commission on Aging would allow an
alternative method to continue the participation of Advisory
Council representatives on TACC.
