RYDINGSWORD, DIRECTOR Contra Social Service Department S+a ^ DATE: June 3, 1988 A�rlty SUBJECT: SUPPORT FOR AB 3273 - FILANTE, "AGING" � ��``71 SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION` RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Supervisors support AB 3273 - Filante, which appropriates $80, 000 to the State Department on Aging to reimburse representatives of local Agency on Aging Advisory Councils for participation in senior advocacy and related travel; and, That if such funding is infeasible due to the current State budget deficit, the Board support having the State Department of Aging consider how this function can be carried out through the Commission on Aging's activities; and, Further, that the Board authorize the Welfare Director to write the County's Legislative delegation and the Director of the Department on Aging outlining its position. BACKGROUND: The Triple A Council of California (TACO) was organized in 1977 to link representatives from the Agency on Aging Advisory Councils throughout California. TACC's purposes include: ♦ advising Area Agencies in planning, and coordinating services to the aging; + coordinating and providing Advisory Council Training; ♦ exchanging information and programs between Advisory Councils; and, ♦ involving the elderly, to the maximum extent possible, on programs, services, and issues affecting them. TACC meetings among the 33 Area Advisory Councils are held six times each year in Sacramento. Participation and travel costs are prohibiting the Council representatives from attending. However, if the current State Budget deficit makes such funding infeasible, providing for this participation within the activities of the Commission on Aging would allow an alternative method to continue the participation of Advisory Council representatives on TACC.
