Schroder Costa DATE: June 14 , 1988 County SUBJECT: EXTENSION OF EAST COUNTY AND SAN RAMON VALLEY REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSIONS SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: Refer to the Community Development Department and the Internal Operations Committee the issue of reviewing the performance and workload of the Regional Planning Commissions and considering an extension of their existence for four (4) years. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On December 17, 1985, the Board approved in concept the idea of regional planning commissions -- which would be designed in such a way as to directly and structurally involve cities with the county government in the planning process. Since their inception and appointment, the commissions have fulfilled their objectives to encourage and provide much greater integrated planning between cities and the county and between cities themselves. This involvement has stimulated more mutual and cooperative planning. The East County Regional Planning Commission and the San Ramon Valley Regional Planning Commission have done an outstanding job and are essential for continuing good communication with the public and providing an accessible planning forum. We strongly recommend their continuance and suggest that they be renewed for at least four years.
