SUBJECT: Board Referral of April 19, 1988 - Aviation Week and Open House at
Buchanan Field Airport
Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) 8 Background & Justification
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
APPROVE the use of Buchanan Field Airport for a one-day "Open House" on Sunday,
June 19, 1988.
DECLARE the week of June 13 through June 19, 1988 to be "Contra Costa County
Aviation Week" in recognition of the economic, social and recreational benefits
of aviation activity in the County, and the need for continued public and
business support and recognition.

REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND•
Mr. Alex Ozuna, Chair of the 1988 Buchanan Field Airport Open House, submitted a
letter dated April, b, 1988 requesting the Board consider designating June 19,
1988, for a one-day Open House at Buchanan Field Airport. This request was
modified by the sponsoring groups to include "recognition" of the preceding week
as "Contra Costa County Aviation Week".
The Federal Aviation Administration (Buchanan Field Airport Tower) , the Contra
Costa Airports Business Association, and the Aviation Committee of the Concord
Chamber of Commerce, request support for this Declaration and the use of the
County's Buchanan ,Field Airport. Fixed Base Operators will actively support this
event and the Concord Chamber will help manage the activities slated for the day.
The 'one-day Open House will not include any air demonstrations (acrobatic,
aerobatics or air shows) except those routinely permitted under ordinary and
normal FAA Tower Control. Exhibits, static displays, food and beverages,
concession stands, FBO demonstrations and 10e/lb. airplane rides, etc. , will be
included in the Open House.
Satisfactory insurance coverage will be provided by the Concord Chamber of
Commerce.
