SUBJECT: Support for SB 2179 - Petris,
"Meals for Functionally Impaired Adults"
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION•
That the Board of Supervisors adopt a position supporting
SB 2179 - Petris, "Meals for Functionally Impaired Adults, "
as amended in the Senate Health and Human Services Committee;
and,
Further that the Board authorize the Welfare Director to send
letters to the County's legislative delegation and
appropriate legislative committees outlining our support for
SB 2179 as amended.
BACKGROUND:
SB 2179 allocates $600, 000 from the State General Fund to the
State Department on Aging for Local Area Agencies on Aging
to provide meals to home-bound "functionally impaired adults"
under the age of 60.
The Senate Health and Human Services Committee amended
SB 2179, increasing the amount of the allocation and removing
a requirement for local matching funds.
Currently, Contra Costa County has no specific program nor
funding to provide meals to home-bound disabled or
"functionally impaired" adults under age 60.
Any State funding made available for such efforts could be
used to augment the services provided within the
Home-delivered meals program.
