APPROVING EXECUTION AND SUBMISSION OF FY 1988-89 TITLE V
(SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICES EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM) GRANT

SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECONMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICAT WN
I. RECOMMEMDED ACTION:
Ratify the actions of Carl N. Cole, Director, Office on
Aging, by approving the execution and submission of Title V
Grant Application (County #29-009-23) to the California
Department of Aging, requesting $106,986 in federal funds to
provide part-time employment for twenty-two ( 22) low income
seniors under the County' s FY 1988-89 (7/1/88 - 6/30/89)
Title V Senior Communtiy Services Employment Program.
In addition, authorize the Director, Office on Aging, to
execute future nonsubstantive modifications to the Title V
Grant, as may be required by the State of California
Department of Aging.
H. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
County match, including Contractor match and additional funds
to supplement wages and fringe benefits, will total $37 ,729
which is included in the County Social Service Department' s
projected budget for FY 1988-89.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
Since 1977, the County, through its Office on Aging, has
continued to operate a Senior Community Services Employment
Program under Title V of the Older Americans Act. The
current 1987-88 funding level supports 23 part-time senior
postions in Contra Costa County.
The requested Grant Application funding level ( $106,986) for
1988-89 will provide for 22 such postions, 5 of which are
allocated to County departments and 17 to public and private
non-profit agencies operating in Contra Costa County.
Subsequent to notification on March 7 , 1988, from the
California Department of Aging regarding the need to submit
the County' s Title V Grant Application no later than
March 25, 1988, the Contra Costa County Office on Aging' s
Director signed and submitted the document to the State on
March 22, 1988. It is requested that th Boar atify and
approve this action. f
