RAINEY, Sheriff-Coroner Costa DATE: March 17, 1988 County SUBJECT: NATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATORS' WEEK SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION IN THE MATTER OF PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF APRIL 11 , 1988 AS NATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATORS' WEEK. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION WHEREAS the professional public safety dispatcher. plays a vital role in the protection of human life and property and the preservation of law and order guaranteed by our constitution; .and WHEREAS the incidents of crime, alcohol and drug abuse, suicides, medical and fire emergencies, broken homes, and child and elderly abuse are a daily occurrence; and WHEREAS the professional public safety dispatcher is that pivotal link between the citizen or victim and the public safety provider who may apprehend a criminal , save their worldly possessions from fire or theft, save their life or the life of a loved one; and WHEREAS Contra Costa County is fortunate to be blessed with dedicated and trained professional public safety dispatchers; and WHEREAS these professionals need and deserve the informed support of our community to continually maintain and improve the quality of public safety dispatching services; and WHEREAS the Associated Public Safety Communications Officers, Inc. , an organization of over 6,000 people engaged in the design, installation and operation of emergency response communications systems, has set aside the second week in April to recognize telecommunicators and their crucial role in the protection of life and property; and WHEREAS the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors wishes to commend the devotion, services and contribution of professional public safety dispatchers to the overall improvement of public safety services in Contra Costa County; . NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, California, that we do hereby PROCLAIM the second week of April 1988 as National Telecommunicators ' Week.
