SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION•
Adopt a position of support for AB 200 by Assemblyman Clute which
would place a $65 million bond issue on, the ballot in November,
1988 to construct a second veterans home:
BACKGROUND:
Existing law provides for the establishment of the Veterans Home
of California in Napa County and for its operation on behalf of
aged and disabled veterans and their spouses by the Department of
Veterans Affairs.
Assemblyman Clute has introduced AB 200 which would authorize the
Department of Veterans Affairs to establish and construct for not
more than $65 million a second veterans home in one of six
specified counties in southern California. The bill would also
enact the Veterans Home Bond Act which would authorize the
issuance of bonds in the amount of $65 million and would provide
for submission of the Bond Act to the voters at the November 1,
1988 General Election.
AB 200 would also appropriate $2.9 million for site selection for
this second home.
The Acting Director of Veterans Affairs, Elmer Rieger, recommends
the Board .support AB 200.
