SUBJECT: Martinez Veterans Administration Medical Center
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I . RECOMMENDED ACTION :
Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute on behalf of the
County, Veterans Administration Contract Amendment Agreement
426-023-36 (V612P-2095 ) with the Martinez Veterans Administra-
tion Medical Center to amend Contract #26-032-29 (as amended
by Contract Amendments 426-023-30 , 426-023-31 , #26-023-32 )
426-023-33 , and 426-023-35 ) to extend the term of the Contract
for one additional month to March 31 , 1988 , with a payment limit
increase of $7 , 830.
II . FINANCIAL IMPACT :
This contract is fully funded in the Health Services
Department ' s Enterprise I Budget for 1987-88 . Amendment
Agreement 426-023-36 will result in a payment limit increase of
$7 , 830 from $172 , 320 to a new total of $180 , 150 for the twenty-
three month term of the contract . There is no unit price
increase included in this amendment . Cost of the services will
depend upon utilization , and the services provided under this
contract are billable to patients and third party payors .
III . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND :
For ;many years , the County has maintained a contractual rela-
tionship with the Martinez Veterans Administration Medical
Center which has made available to the County specialized medi-
cal services not available at Merrithew Memorial Hospital and
Clinics due to lack of resources , equipment , and personnel.
At the present time the Veterans administration is providing
nuclear medicine studies , specialized laboratory tests , and
dermatology services .
The contract documents have always been prepared by the Veterans
Administration. The Martinez Veterans Administration Medical
Center has authority to initiate amendment agreements while
approval for the contracts must come from Washington, D. C.
The Veterans Administration anticipates receiving an approved
contract from Washington , to be effective April 1 , 1988, and the
purpose of this amendment agreement is to allow continuation of
service , pending approval by the Board of a new contract .
