EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT - PUBLIC/ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ADVISORY BOARDS
DEFINITION:
Under general direction, provides research and administrative assistance to
several public and environmental health advisory boards in fullfilling
their obligations as defined by the Board of Supervisors; does program
planning and program development work on public health and environmental
health issues as assigned; performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This single position management class provides staff assistance to a number
of public and environmental health citizen boards, or subcommittees
thereof, which are advisory to the Health Services Department or the Board
of Supervisors on public health and environmental health issues. These
include, but are not limited to, the Public and Environmental Health
Advisory Board, the Hazardous Materials Commission, the Environmental
Health Coordinating Council or others such panels. This position reports
to the Assistant Director of Health Services for Public Health.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Gathers and analyzes public input on service needs and solicits support
for public and environmental health programs and projects; conducts studies
and prepares reports on health planning and service delivery issues;
gathers, analyzes and presents data on public health and envirormental
health issues; reviews, researchs and analyzes County health programs and
formulates policy options and proposals for consideration by administration;

advises and assist advisory boards in developing and submitting their reccmmen-
dations to the Health Services Department; prepares the agenda and supporting
materials for the boards and insures' followup and implementation of their recom-
mendations and other decisions of departmental administration; provides con-
sultation and technical assistance to cammunaty organizations and public and
private agencies on health planning issues; conducts or coordinates the conduct
of a variety of health promotion and health education programs and projects;
maintains liason with and represents the Department or the advisory boards in
meetings with other County, State or Federal agencies; keeps departmental admi-
nistration and the advisory boards aware of current trends and problems in the
field of public and environmental health.
MINDUM QUALIFICATIONS:
License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle
Operators license.
Education: Possession of a Baccaulaurate degree from an accredited
college or university with a major in Public Administration, Health
Services, Public Health or a closely related field.
Experience: Three years of full time experience, or it's equivalent, in
a health services agency or program, at least eighteen months of which was
in a public health program performing health prcmotion or health education
work.
Substitution: Possession of a Masters degree in Public Health, Public
Administration or a related field may be substituted for one year of the
required general experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the functions and programs of loeally operated public health
and environmental health agencies; knowledge of the,•principles and
practices of public administration; knowledge of the techniques for doing
program planning and program development work; knowledge of accepted
methods for studying health problems and service programs; knowledge of
the techniques for promoting health education and preventive health
practices; ability to gather and analyze data; ability to enlist the
support of diverse groups of people for public health and environmental
health programs; ability to prepare clear and concise reports and
correspondence; ability to speak effectively before large groups: ability
to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with employees,
members of the public, elected officials and representatives of local
eannunity agencies.
