California continues to experience significant seismic activity with a damaging earthquake occurring somewhere in the state about every two years; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa , County is situated on 5 known earthquake faults; and WHEREAS, these, areas are likely to, 'experience earthquakes of -damaging intensities at some time in the future; and WHEREAS, emergency preparedness measures taken by the citizens of Contra Costa . county , before, during, and after a damaging earthquake can reduce loss of life and property, ease fears, and lessen confusion; and WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Office of Emergency Services, with ,; the assistance of the Governor ' s Office of Emergency. Services, volunteer agencies', and the federal government, is i,tattempting to inform and educate Contra Costa County residents about , earthquake preparedness : NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the month of April is hereby proclaimed EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS MONTH, and all residents are urged to learn what to do: before, during, and after an earthquake to prevent or minimize injuries, loss of life, and property damage., BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County of Contra Costa will provide its residents, including schoolchildren, the elderly, and disabled, with appropriate earthquake safety information, not only during ,'this special month, but throughout the year.
