The Department recently received verbal approval from the State Department of AIDS that Federal funding has been approved for us to conduct an HIV Prevalence Survey Program over a five year period. The attached memo dated 2/8/88 and supporting documentation confirms this funding approval and provides a general outline of anticipated program activities. A number of new positions will be necessary including a Laboratory Technician to be assigned to our Public Health Laboratory. The balance of the needed positions will be requested at a later date. Duties of the proposed Laboratory Technician position are as outlined in an attachment to this memo. Although this position will be 100 percent Federally funded as part of a time limited project, it is expected to continue" for five years commencing 5/1/88. That being the case, we feel classified as opposed to project status is appropriate in this case. Any necessary expen- ditures for supplies or equipment will also be paid from the project funding. We anticipate filling this new position permanently from the exam now underway. Please shoot for placement of the attached P-300 on the 3/22/88 Board agenda.
