In the Matter of Proclaiming )
March, 1988 as "Mental ) RESOLUTION NO. 88/129
Retardation Awareness" Month )
WHEREAS mental retardation today affects 6 million individuals
and their families across America; and
WHEREAS the most effective method for prevention of mental
retardation and other developmental disabilities is public
knowledge and understanding; and
WHEREAS the potential for citizens with mental retardation to
function more independently and more productively must be
fostered; and
WHEREAS community based programs and services significantly
enhance the lives of children and adults with mental retardation;
and
WHEREAS during the month of March the Association for Retarded
Citizens (ARC) in conjunction with ARC chapters across the state
and the nation is conducting a public education campaign;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of
the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby PROCLAIMS the
month of March, 1988 as "Mental Retardation Awareness" month in
Contra Costa County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED on March 22, 1988, by unanimous vote of the
Board members present.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of
a resolution entered on the minutes of the Board of Supervisors
on the date aforesaid.
I hereby certify that this is a true and correct copy of
an action taken and ertared on the minutes of the
Board of Supervisors on the date shown.
