M I 1 _a 1 7r- ` CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST f ✓ �J�/ �� IN PSYCHIATRIC NURSING WITH CHEMICALLY DEPENDENCY EXPERIENCE/TRAINING Role Functions To oversee the clinical services and therapeutic environment offered to a population of dual diagnosis patients at different levels of acuity and throughout different treatment programs in the dual diagnosis treatment continuum. The Clinical Nurse Specialist is a change agent to the system of psychiatric care and a linkage facil- itator among the various systems of care. The Clinical Nurse Specialist, based on his/her medical nursing orientation is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of the response to the illness (physical, emotional, social, occupation, etc.) in- cluding the response by the various mental health/substance abuse staff to the dual diagnosis patient's illnesses. He/she teaches, consults and coordinates staff in their work with these difficult patients. He/she also teaches the patients and their families/significant others about the dual diseses, the health consequences, and the appropriate means and interventions to reduce/control the physical and psychological consequences of the illnesses and subatance abuse. He/she will part- icipate in the development of patient treatment plans at every level of the -con- tinuum. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will also be involved with prevention and rehabilitation programs so as to reduce the chance of recidivsm and relapse. Minimum Qualifications Licensed Registered Nurse with a Master's Degree in Psychiatric Nursing from an accredited university program who has had a supervised clincial experience at the graduate level. Candidate will have had two years experience as a Registered Nurse ina substance abuse treatment program and in a psychiatric treatment program, or demonstrates competence in work with dual diagnosis patients.
