HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07141987 - T.15 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA DATE: July 14, 1987 MATTER OF' RECORD SUBJECT: Advisory Boards Workshop--July 14, 1937 This day the Board of Supervisors held a workshop with several advisory board representatives to discuss more effective lobbying in Sacramento on behalf of children' s services issues . _Supervisors Torlakson and Schroder were present. - At no time was a quorum of the Board present. Shirley Marchetti, Chair, Human Services Advisory Commission, agreed to work with Ken Jaffe of the Family and Children.';s Trust Fund on scheduling a training session for advisory boards on the whole subject of advocacy with the Legislature. In addition, Ms . Marchetti agreed to assume the responsibility to convene the Chairs of the Advisory Boards in the human services area to review the Board' s draft 1988 Legislative Program and provide their comments and recommendations to the Board of Supervisors at the time the Board considers adopting their 1988 Legislative Program. Mr. Jaffe also suggested that there is a real need for the County to have a full-time children' s Ombudsman who would advocate with County departments , the Board, _arid the Legislature for children' s programs . 111r. Jaffe suggested that some foundations might be interested in providing funding for such an advocacy program, although I do not believe there was an agreement to specifically pursue this suggestion. It was also suggested that each advisory board in the. human services area needs a legislative committee. THIS IS A MATTER FOR RECORD PURPOSES ONLY NO BOARD ACTION TAKEN � Q
