Extending the existing contracts is necessary in order to continue the provision of child abuse/neglect prevention and intervention services while we are waiting for final word on our State allocation and receipt of the State Grant which will contain the "required language" (boilerplate) for our County Contracts for FY 1987/88. Contracts for FY 1987/88 cannot be executed until we are advised by SDSS of our allocation. Since AB 1733 monies are funded as a line-item in the Governor' s budget we will not receive final word on our FY 1987/88 allocation before the end of this fiscal year. Also the contract format may need to be modified to meet new State guidelines. We have been advised by the State Department of Social Services that no COLA is anticipated for July 1, 1987, but that it is possible that the Legislature may adjust the amount at a later date. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION If the contracts are not extended there will be a break in service which will cause distress to the clients served and financial hardship to the contractors.
