In the Matter of Proclaiming )
June 14, 1987 as Flag Day in ) RESOLUTION NO. 87/326
Contra Costa County )
WHEREAS Flag Day is celebrated on June 14 each year in
memory of the day in 1777 when Congress officially adopted the
Stars and Stripes as the official Flag of the United States of
America; and
WHEREAS in 1877 Flag Day was officially observed to mark
the centennial of the Flag' s adoption by Congress; and
WHEREAS President Woodrow Wilson, by proclamation issued
May 30, 1916 , established Flag Day as an annual national
observance; and
WHEREAS Flag Day 1987 takes on added significance
because we celebrate the bicentennial anniversary of the
Constitution of the United States;
NOW THEREFORE IT IS RESOLVED that the Board of
Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby DESIGNATES June 14 , 1987
as Flag Day in Contra Costa County.
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that all citizens of Contra Costa
County are urged to mark the observance by taking particular pride
in flying the Flag from their homes, businesses and all public
buildings.
PASSED on June 2, 1987 by unanimous vote of the
Board members present.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and
correct copy of an order entered on the minutes of said Board of
Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
