Gilbert, l.lJ ltra l Director of General Services C sta DATE: June 8, 1987 C oiry SUBJECT: Authorize Director of General Services to Approve or Terminate Electronic Equipment Maintenance Agreements SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I . RECOMMENDATION AUTHORIZE the Director of General Services to approve or terminate electronic equipment maintenance agreements with various subscribers. II . REASON FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: The Communications Division of the General Services Department has historically provided electronic equipment maintenance services to a variety of subscribers. Generally the subscribers do not have in-house capability to provide the services, and the use of a com- mercial service would not insure compliance with regulations or standards for County-obtained Federal Communications Commission (FCC) licenses or with County standards for use of space on County- controlled premises (microwave sites, etc. ) . Currently the Communications Division provides services to approximately 37 subscribers, including the following: 1. Federal agencies 2. State agencies 3 . Cities 4. Districts (parks, mosquito abatement, fire, transit, sanitary, school, hospital, water) 5. Private companies (alarm, ambulance, railroad, radio manufacturers/vendors) 6. Non-profit (Red Cross) Many of the existing agreements are old and out of date and should be replaced with the current form (copy attached) which has been approved by County Counsel and Risk Management. III . FINANCIAL IMPACT: Costs will be recovered by charges to the subscribers for labor and materials plus appropriate overhead. The replacement of out-of- date agreements will not be accomplished in a timely, efficient manner.
