HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06161987 - 1.81 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on June 16, 1987 , by the following vote : AYES : Supervisors Powers , Fanden, Schroder , Torlakson, McPeak. NOES : None , ABSENT : None . ABSTAIN: None . SUBJECT: Human Relations Commission The Board having met June 9, 1987 with the Human Relations Commission, and having determined to take certain actions which had not previously been listed on the Board' s agenda, IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that: 1 . The Board is committed to appropriating $25,000 for the Human Relations Commission for the 1987-88 fiscal year. 2. The County Administrator is directed to invite proposals from various County departments which may be interested in utilizing the above funds to provide staffing support to the Human Relations Commission and to recommend to the Board how staffing should be provided during the 1987-88 fiscal year. 3 . The Financial Strategy submitted by the Human Relations Commission to the Board of Supervisors is referred to the County Administrator to explore various funding options and report to the Budget Committee at the beginning of discussions on the budget July 20, 1987 . 4. The Human Relations Commission is strongly encouraged to meet with the Sheriff-Coroner and Community Services Director regarding staffing and investigative support during the 1987-88 fiscal year. 5. The County Administrator is authorized, at the request of the Commission' s Steering Committee, to utilize up to $1,500 of funds which remain unexpended from the $25,000 provided to the Human Relations Commission for the 1986-87 fiscal year to purchase investigation services for the Human Relations Commission on discrimination complaints currently pending with the Commission. 6. Request the County Administrator to refer to the California Attorney General the materials shared by the Human Relations Commission with Board Members. on June 9, 1987 regarding fliers being handed out and recorded telephone messages which are blatantly racist; requesting that the Attorney General take whatever actions he can to assist the County in preventing future similar incidents.
