SUBJECT: Paramedic Services in Contra Costa County
IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that Resolution No . 87/290
be adopted in recognition of the 10 Year Anniversary of the
County Paramedic Program.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the Health Services Director
is DIRECTED to transmit Resolution No . 87/290 to all the cities ,
advising them of the advances in emergency care for all County
residents .

RECOGNITION OF THE 10 YEAR )
ANNIVERSARY OF THE COUNTY )
PARAMEDIC PROGRAM )
WHEREAS the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors established an
Emergency Medical Care Committee and directed the EMCC, in 1976,
to take an overall responsibility for planning and developing a
county-wide Emergency Medical Service System; and
WHEREAS the EMCC recommended the development of a paramedic program to
serve Contra Costa County as a key element of the Emergency
Medical Services System; and
WHEREAS the EMCC conducted field care studies resulting in recommendations
to support the development of paramedic servicest and
WHEREAS the Board of Supervisors approved and authorized the establishment
of paramedic services in November 1976 ; and
WHEREAS the combined efforts of our local hospitals, ambulance service
providers , law enforcement agencies, fire services , county health
services, teaching institutions, and the Medical Advisory Committee.
members representing expertise from many additional provider and
concerned citizens interest qroups , successfully developed an
advanced life support services program plan for Contra Costa
County; and
WHEREAS Advanced life support was implemented in May, 1977; and
WHEREAS continuous concern and effort on the part of the Board of
Supervisors , providers and citizen participants has improved and
extended the initial paramedic services program county-wide over
the past Ten (10) years; and
WHEREAS the paramedic level of service being provided within Contra Costa
County today is recognized as a vital element of our integrated
Emergency Medical Services System including prehospital transport-
ation, Base Hospitals, Basic Emergency Rooms and the recently
established Level II Trauma Center.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors
recognizes, appreciates and commends the efforts of all segments
of our community whose commitment, professionalism, expertise,
involvement and tireless participation, has resulted in the
high level of Paramedic Services afforded within Contra Costa
County on the occasion of this Ten (10) year anniversary of the
inception of this vital Public Protection Program.
