HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05121987 - T.2 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on May 12, 1987 , by the following vote: AYES; Supervisors Powers, Fanden, Schroder, Torlakson, McPeak NOES; None ABSENT; None ABSTAIN; None ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------ SUBJECT; CSAC Fiscal Relief Campaign Phil Batchelor, County Administrator, and Scott Tandy, Assistant County Administrator, presented a slide presentation on the fiscal crisis Contra Costa County and many other counties in California are facing due to State mandated programs and the lack of revenue to fund such programs. Supervisor McPeak advised that a coalition of business, labor and concerned citizens has been assembled to promote the Fiscal Relief Program as proposed by the County Supervisors Association of California (CSAC) . The following persons made presentations in support of the CSAC Fiscal Relief Campaign: Don Christen, Co-Chair of the Contra Costa Coalition and Executive Vice_ President, Contra Costa Taxpayers Association; Joel Keller, representing the Mayors ' Conference; Alex Mehran, representing the Contra Costa Council; Steve Roberti, on behalf of Warren Jackman and Tony Cannata, and representing the Building and Construction Trades Council and the Labor Council; Shirley Marchetti, representing the Human Services Advisory Commission; Dennis Lepak, representing the Mental Health Advisory Board; Shawn Guinn, representing Family and Children' s Services Advisory Committee; Paul Katz , representing the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Financing County Services; and Henry Clarke, General Manager, Contra Costa County Employees Association Local 1. Each of the persons who spoke joined in signing an open letter to the Governor and the Legislature urging support for the Fiscal Relief Program. Supervisor Nancy Fanden expressed appreciation for the participation of the Coalition members, noting that everyone' s support was required in order for this campaign to be successful. Supervisor Robert Schroder commented on the cross- section of the County represented by the Coalition and noted that the Fiscal Relief Program was in the best interests of all the citizens of the County. 1 Supervisor Tom Torlakson also expressed his appreciation to the Coalition members, and stated that all levels of Government needed to work together to solve the fiscal problems.
