HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04071987 - S.7 � 7 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Commending ) Judge Patricia Herron on the ) Resolution No. 87/199 Occasion of Her Retirement ) After Ten Years as a Jurist ) WHEREAS Judge Herron was appointed to the Superior Court by former Governor Edmund Brown Jr. , in 1977; and WHEREAS, Judge Herron was the first woman to don the black robes in the courthouse in Martinez; and WHEREAS Judge Herron has had varied careers as a lawyer, teacher, counselor and assistant dean of women at both Stanford University and the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. ; and WHEREAS Judge Herron was elected presiding judge in 1980 by her fellow judges; and WHEREAS Judge Herron has also been juvenile court judge, criminal court judge, the law and motion judge and a general trial judge for civil and criminal cases; and WHEREAS Judge Herron has already received several other job offers, including an offer as president of Trinity College in Washington, D.C. , where she received .a degree in English literature in 1949; and WHEREAS Judge Herron has also worked for volunteer and community organizations, including the Point Richmond Civic Group, the American Red Cross Board of 'Directors, the YWCA Board of Directors, the Richmond Memorial Youth Center Board, the Neighborhood House Board of Directors, the Little Hoover Commission in Richmond and the United Bay Area Crusade; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California hereby CONGRATULATES Patricia Herron on the occasion of her retirement as a jurist, and EXTENDS to her its best wishes for continued good health, happiness, and prosperity in the years to come. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the unanimous vote of the Board on the seventh day of April, 1987. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of the resolution entered on the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
