HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04071987 - 1.19 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Congratulating ) the Rodeo-Hercules Fire .Protection ) Resolution No. 87/211 District on Their 50th Anniversary ) WHEREAS Frank Del Monte was the first fire chief, directing his men armed with buckets; and WHEREAS he was succeeded by Sam Kramer, and later by Tom Lewis, whose force possessed a hand-drawn hose cart in addition to the buckets; and WHEREAS in 1927 the community pitched in to provide funds for the construction of a fire house; and WHEREAS ten years after the fire house had been built, the official Rodeo Fire District was formed in Contra Costa County, with a Board of Commissioners to govern it; and WHEREAS Rodeo had had a full-time paid fireman on duty for some time, in 1946 the Board of Fire Commissioners ok'd an order to have a fireman on duty at all times; and WHEREAS in May 1948, the Department was given the added responsibility of watching over some 2,000 acres annexed to the district by the Contra Costa County Supervisors; and WHEREAS in 1965 Arthur Cooper was appointed first full paid Fire Chief, and the District expanded the paid employees to four; and WHEREAS the Rodeo Fire Protection District provides services for the City of Hercules and the unincorporated .community of Rodeo; and WHEREAS the District is one of three independent district's in the County and is under the direction of a five man board who are elected-at-large by the citizens of both communities; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby extends congratulations and appreciation to the Rodeo Fire Protection District on their fifty years of service to the community. PASSED AND ADOPTED on April 7, 1987, by the unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered in the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
