MICHAEL WALFORD, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DATE: April 21, 1987 SUBJECT: Approve Contract Change Order Nos. 17, 18, 19, and 20 for the Appian Way Widening Project. Project No. 0662-6R4177-83, Pinole and E1 Sobrante Areas. Specific Requests or Recommendations & Background & Justification RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE Contract Change Orders No. 17, 18, 19, and 20, in the aggregate amount of $39,676.31, and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director to execute them in order to compensate the contractor, Bay Cities Paving and Grading Company, for work resulting from design changes. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The project contingency funds are sufficient to cover the change order costs. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: The cumulative total of these and previous contract change orders exceeds $25,000, requiring Board approval . Design changes were necessitated by the actual field conditions, resulting in changed road and storm drain grades and associated work. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The lack of approval would preclude the payment to the contractor for the work required for the successful completion of the contract.
