DATE: February 25, 1987
County
SUBJECT:
Legislation: Senate Bill 304 (Presley)
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION•
Adopt a position of support for SB 304 by Senator Robert Presley
which would authorize the Board of Supervisors to impose a fee on
civil filings by up to $10 to fund a child care facility or room
within the courthouse for children in the courthouse for court
appearances or whose parents are in the courthouse for family
mediation services, or other court appearances.
BACKGROUND:
A major priority of the Board of Supervisors is the provision of
adequate child care resources for persons in need of such
services. A variety of efforts are underway in this regard. One
of the interests the Internal Operations Committee has been
pursuing is the possibility of incorporating child care
facilities in County buildings, such as detention and courthouse
facilities.
Senator Robert Presley has introduced SB 304 which would
authorize the Board of Supervisors to impose a fee, similar to
the law library fee, on civil filings in order to finance
adequate child care facilities in courthouses.
Since SB 304 authorizes a means of providing additional child
care facilities in County facilities, it is appropriate for the
Board of Supervisors to support SB 304 .
