HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03031987 - 1.26 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA IN THE MATTER OF ) RESOLUTION NO. 87/110 Recognizing the Dedicated ) Contributions of ) Jerome "Jerry" Waldie ) WHEREAS, Jerry Waldie, an Antioch native and product of a rich, local political tradition, went on to distinguish himself on a local, county, state and national level; WHEREAS, he represented East Contra Costa County in the State Assembly from 1956 to 1966 and was a member of the U.S. Congress from 1967 to 1974 serving as Chair of the Federal Mine Society and Health Review Commission, and as Member of the Judicial Committee; and WHEREAS, from 1979 to 1981, he served as Director of the White House Conference on Aging and on the Agricultural Labor Rela- tions Board from 1979 to 1985; and WHEREAS, during his many years of. service, Mr. Waldie has endeavored to preserve the integrity of East County' s most precious resource--the Delta; and WHEREAS, he has always been an advocate for the people, encouraging the participation of women and minorities in the political process, responsive to the needs of the aged and especially cognizant of the unique needs of our farming community; and WHEREAS, on March 6, 1987, the City of Antioch, the Antioch Chamber of Commerce, and California Delta Newspapers will sponsor a "Jerry Waldie Day" in recognition of Mr. Waldie ' s years of concerned, dedicated and committed community service; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors joins the City of Antioch and East County residents in honoring and recognizing the outstanding and dedicated contributions of Jerome "Jerry" Waldie to the citizens of our community. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 3rd day of March, 1987. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and corect copy of an order entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors of the date aforesaid.
