Establish the class of Drafting Services Manager (NPHC) and allocate to
the basic salary schedule at level C5-1675 ($2425-2947). Reclassify
person and position of Supervising Engineering Drafter, position
number 65-360 to the new class. Abandon the class of Supervising
Engineering Drafter. (NPHA)
Amend Resolution 71/17 establishing positions and resolutions allocating classes to the
Basic/Exempt Salary Schedule, as described above.
Effective: day following Board action.

DRAFTING SERVICES MANAGER
DEFINITION:
Under general direction, to plan, organize and coordinate all base
map and drafting engineering design projects in the Public Works Department;
to review the work of subordinate personnel ; and to do related work as
required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This single-position class is located in the Public Works
Department. The incumbent is in charge of the base mapping and engineering
design drafting program. This class is distinguished from the class of
Drafting Services Coordinator 'in that the latter is responsible for the
operation of the drafting services program in the Assessor's Office.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Plans, organizes and supervises the base map and engineering design
drafting; assigns and reviews the work of subordinate staff engaged in the
drafting of engineering plans, base maps and other assignments; confers with
superiors regarding requirements of specific projects or special assignments;
assists in interviewing and hiring drafting personnel , trains and completes
employee evaluations for drafting personnel ;, assists other departments,
contractors, engineering firms and the public regarding county maps; maintains
records of work progress and prepares periodic and special reports as
required; develops, implements and maintains all documentation, standards, and
procedures for computer aided drafting/design projects, including base mapping
and engineering design; participates in the development of user commands,
matrix menus and accounting for computer aided drafting/design projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency
or a high school proficiency certificate.
Experience: Five years of full-time mapping or general drafting
experience or its equivalent, six months of which must have included
responsibility for directing major drafting projects which involved computer
aided drafting and design systems.
Substitution: Education in engineering, architecture or drafting at
a recognized college or university may be substituted for the required
experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Good knowledge of the principles and practices of drafting work;
thorough knowledge of the principles of algebra, geometry and trigonometry and
their applica-tion to engineering map drafting; knowledge of computer aided
drafting principles and procedures; good knowledge of modern principles of
work organization and employee supervision; knowledge of accepted practices of
record systems and maintenance; ability to plan, organize and supervise the
work of subordinates; ability to deal tactfully and effectively with assigned
staff, other departments and the general public; ability to prepare and
present clear and organized written and verbal reports.
