June 21, 1986 as Save American ) RESOLUTION NO. 86/321
Industry and Jobs Day )
WHEREAS throughout more than two hundred years of development,
American business, industry and workers have generated a model economy
and strength that became the envy of the world; and
WHEREAS the willingness of business and industry to be
flexible, able to change and to create change, and an American work
force willing and capable to meet the challenge has produced a higher
standard of living in this country than in any other nation in the
world; and
WHEREAS American workers and manufacturers have produced more
consumer products than could have been imagined two hundred years ago,
excelling in producing, assembly and transportation of those goods to
and for consumers and government; and
WHEREAS American industry and workers have, during times of
peace and national or global emergency, met the call from home and the
call from abroad, saving many allied nations from aggressors; and
WHEREAS we have faith in our democratic institutions, industry
and workers to improve the quality of life here and everywhere, to blend
the pursuit of profit with competition, without forgetting to advance
long-held values of social justice and fairness in the community; and
WHEREAS community leaders, legislators, small business owners,
steelworkers, teachers and concerned working Americans will join together
in observance of this very special event;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of
Contra Costa County, California hereby PROCLAIMS June 21, 1986 to be
Save American Industry and Jobs Day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all residents in Contra Costa
County are URGED to join' in a national salute to the combined achievements
of these workers, businesses and manufacturing industries in recognition
of Save American Industry and Jobs Day.
PASSED on June 3, 1986 by unanimous vote of the Board members
present.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct
copy of an order entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors
on the date aforesaid.
