SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I . RECOMMENDED ACTIONS: Authorize the District Attorney to execute on behalf of the County contracts with the following named community based organizations , including extensions or amendments thereof provided they do not exceed the amount shown below: Organization Amount Not to Exceed Battered Women ' s Alternatives Inc . $203 , 983 Budget Unit #0242 $131 , 308 Budget Unit #0585, - 80 , 750 Less Admin. Fee - -8 , 075 $203 , 983 East County Rape Crisis Unit $ 49 , 899 Budget Unit #0242 Rape Crisis Center of West Contra Costa $. 58 ,005 Budget Unit #0242 Rape Crisis Service of Central Contra Costa $ 57 , 577 Budget Unit #0242 Each contract shall contain a condition that it is to be terminated without notice should no funds be appropriated within the final 1986/1987 County budget. II . FINANCIAL IMPACT: These funds are required to pay the salary & benefits and services and services and supplies costs of the community based organizations as specified within the budget portion of the contract. All of the funds involved in these contracts are county funds except for the $80 , 750 included within Budget Unit #0585 for the BAttered Women ' s Alternatives Inc. Rape Crisis Unit Rape Crisis Unit, West Contra Costa BY DEPUTY M382/7-83 Rape Crisis Service, Central Contra Costa which are levied in accordance with W&I Code Sections 18291 to 19307 and SB 1330 (Chapter 522 , Statutes of 1982) . The use of these funds is restricted by law to the support of domestic violence programs . III . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: These contracts provide for the continuation of funding for the delivery of rape crisis services to the community by the three rape crisis centers listed herein and for the continuation of funding for the delivery of battered women' s shelter and support services to the community by the Battered Women' s Alternatives Inc. Funds for these community based organizations are included within the District Attorney ' s requested FY 1986/ 1987 budget. IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Failure to approve this request will result in the loss of most of the services being provided by these organizations to citizens of the county. Inasmuch as county funds represent a major source of financing for these organizations , it would be necessary for them to drastically reduce their program operations and lay off most of their staff .
