IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Proclaiming ) May 7, 1986 as "Barrier Awareness ) RESOLUTION NO. 86/ 250 Day" in Contra Costa County ) WHEREAS the observance of a Barrier Awareness Day is being held nationally on May 7, 1,986, and is dedicated to the principle that all people have a right to reasonable architectural accessibility; and WHEREAS Barrier Awareness Day alerts all citizens of the need to identify architectural, attitudinal and communications barriers; and WHEREAS Barrier Awareness Day endeavors to correct any misconceptions regarding people with disabilities; and WHEREAS Barrier Awareness Day signifies that persons who are disabled wish the freedom to live, to gain meaningful employment, to participate in the political process, and to enjoy recreational activities in a barrier-free society while stressing the importance of independence; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California hereby PROCLAIMS the day of May 7, 1986 as "Barrier Awareness Day," and encourages all county programs, businesses and residents in Contra Costa to support, promote and dedicate themselves to create in the County of Contra Costa a society which will enhance and enrich all citizens' quality of life. PASSED AND ADOPTED on May 6, 1986 by unanimous vote of the Board members present.
