The State of California' s ability to attract domestic
and international visitors is unmatched throughout the
nation. Californians proudly and warmly welcome more than
100 million visitors annually to enjoy the multi-ethnic and
colorful heritage of the people of California, as well as
the- Golden State' s unique attractions and exciting
destinations, offering something for everyone.
Travel and tourism contribute significantly to
California' s economic life, generating over $31 billion
annually, and supporting nearly 600 , 000 jobs . Local tourism
development and promotion has become increasingly important
to our state' s rural regions.
As California celebrates the second year of its highly
successful tourism marketing campaign, it is appropriate
that we join with the United States Congress in recognizing
the importance of tourism to our society.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of
Supervisors that May, 1986 be proclaimed California Travel
and Tourism Month and that all citizens be urged to join in
this observance in recognition of National Tourism Week,
May 18 to 24, 1986 .
