Commending Milo P. Smith ) . RESOLUTION NO. 86/238
Today we commend Milo P. Smith for her many years of dedication
and esteemed service in the employment and training field,
including her roles as director of Jobs for Older Women Action
Project in Oakland, and co-founder and director of the first
Displaced Homemakers' Center in the United States at Mills
College in Oakland.
She served as consultant to the Displaced Homemakers ' organization
first, and later to the State Department of Vocational Education,
and has contributed her considerable wisdom and labor to the
development of pre-employment preparation programs for women in
community colleges, adult education centers, and various community
organizations, both locally and throughout the state.
. Milo is a recognized expert on women's economic and employment
issues, as demonstrated by prominence as consultant to the U.S.
Department of Education and Labor, the American Vocational
Education Association, the Educational Testing Service, and various
other organizations.
She has achieved acclaim for outstanding work with local, state
and federal elected officials and staff, to effect public policy
and legislative changes needed to secure economic justice for
women, as demonstrated by her appointments to the Contra Costa
County Advisory Committee on Employment and Economic Status of
Women, and the State Senate Task Force on Family Equity.
Since Milo P. Smith has been widely honored for her standard of
excellence and extraordinary accomplishments by local, state and
national organizations, including the State Department of
Vocational Education, National Women's Political Caucus, Bay Area
Women Entrepeneurs, Soroptimists International and Emeryville
Business and Professional Women;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
commend Milo P. Smith for her exemplary ments and
congratulates this celebrated advocate on brin ing honor and
advancement to our communit
