FINANCIAL IMPACT None REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND The Board of Supervisors and the County Board of Education recently co-sponsored two Symposiums on the Family to heighten community awareness of family issues and to facilitate networking among service groups and agencies. The Symposiums resulted in a proposal to establish a Contra Costa Family Alliance. About 90 percent of the participants at the second Symposium agreed on the need for the Family Alliance. The participants also made specific recommendations regarding its mission, charges, organization and membership. These are reflected in the attached Summary of Responses. A detailed listing of responses is also attached for the Board' s review. It is recommended that the Board appoint a Blue Ribbon Steering Committee to initiate the Alliance. The Steering Committee would work with interested Symposium participants to establish membership and overall structure. Recommended Steering Committee members represent all segments of the community, as well as geographical interests. Recommended Steering Committee members were active participants at the Symposium sessions held in October and January. Most assisted in developing preliminary recommendations regarding the concept of the Contra Costa Family Alliance. All have expressed an interest in serving on the Steering Committee.
