SUBJECT: Legislation: Senate Bill 1789 (Davis)
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a position of support for SB 1789 by Senator Davis.
BACKGROUND:
Each year the Board of Supervisors sponsors legislation to
conform State law to changes made in the staffing and pay for
municipal court employees as is required by State law.
Frequently, a separate bill is introduced for this purpose by a
member of this County' s Legislative Delegation. This year, it
has been determined that a single bill will carry most counties '
municipal court pay and staffing provisions.
Senator Davis has introduced SB 1789 which provides the municipal
court pay and staffing requirements for Los Angeles County. He
has now amended the bill to incorporate those changes required
for Contra Costa County. It is, therefore, appropriate that the
Board support SB 1789 as this County' s 1986 municipal court pay
and staffing bill.
