SUBJECT: Approval of Submission of Application #29-265-11 to the State Department of
Health Services for the Maternal and Child Health Coordination Project
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and Authorize the Chairman to execute on behalf of the County, Application
#29-265-11 for submission to the State Department of Health Services in the amount
of $92,500 for the period July 1, 1986 - June 30, 1987 for the Maternal and Child
Health Coordination Project .
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Approval of this application by the State will result in $92,500 of State funding
for the Maternal and Child Health Coordination Project. Sources of funding are as
follows:
State Ongoing Allocation $ 92,500
County In-Kind: Occupancy Costs $ 9,504
Communications 240
Overhead 11,800
Total County Funding $ 21 544
TOTAL PROGRAM $1149044
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND:
On December 3, 1985, the Board approved Contract #29-265-10 with the State
Department of Health Services for continuation of the Maternal and Child Health
Coordination Project during FY 1985-86. Application 429-265-11 requests State
funding for continuation of this project during FY 86-86. The project coordinates
services to women and children, including medical, mental health and prenatal ser-
vices. Project goals. are to (1) make prenatal care available to MediCal women;
(2) provide accurate prenatal data for planning and resource purpose; (3) insure
that women living in high risk, poor pregnancy outcome areas are aware of need for
early and regular care; (4) promote and improve mothers ' and children's health; and
(5) reduce childhood injuries in Contra Costa County.
This document has been approved by the Department's Contracts and Grants
Administrator in accordance with the guidelines approved by the Board's Order of
December 1, 1981 (Guidelines for contract preparation and processing, Health
Services Department) .
In order to meet the State's deadline for submission, draft copies of the applica-
tion have already been forwarded to the State Department of Health Services, but
subject to Board approval. The Board Chairman should sign three copies of the
application, two of which should then be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit
for submission to the State.
